Volunteer Internship Reports — A hands-on healthcare immersion experience

The Sankara Internship in India is a unique, immersive program for dedicated volunteers and their immediate family members. Participants gain hands-on exposure to nonprofit healthcare operations across our partner hospitals in India — an experience unlike anything available in a classroom.

Eligibility

  • 15+ years old
  • 24 hrs of HEAL service, OR
  • 12 hrs + fundraising activity, OR
  • Fundraising only
  • Open to immediate family members of qualifying volunteers

Program Requirements

  • 2 consecutive weeks (Mon–Fri)
  • Self-arranged accommodation, meals & transport
  • Completion report required
  • Only task hours count (not observational)

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible?+

Dedicated volunteers aged 15+ and their immediate family members. You must have completed qualifying service: 24 hrs of HEAL service, OR 12 hrs + fundraising, OR fundraising only.

What are the program requirements?+

2 consecutive weeks (Monday–Friday). Self-arranged accommodation, meals, and transport in India. A completion report is required after the internship.

Will my time count as volunteer hours?+

Only active task hours count toward PVSA or other volunteer recognition — not observational or training time.

What are the application deadlines?+

Summer placements: submit by June 1. Winter placements: submit by October 31.

Which hospitals offer placements?+

Placement depends on partner hospital availability at the time of application. You will be matched with an appropriate partner hospital during the application process.

What activities will I do?+

Rotating through hospital departments, participating in medical camps, observing and assisting with community outreach, and supporting partner hospital operations.
