History and Milestones

Established in 1994 in Guwahati by the Sri Kanchi Sankara Health and Educational Foundation (SKSHEF), Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya began as an 8,000 sq ft tertiary care facility, inaugurated by late Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao.

A Structured Community Outreach Program launched in 1997 by Assam's Governor extended services to underserved areas. An eye bank established in 1998 enhanced capabilities. SSN received a Center of Excellence designation in 2004 from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
